The year of yes

Every now and then, I like to stop and take a moment to check in with my goal as part of writing this blog, my pursuit of happiness.

At times, I find the pursuit has lagged or even stalled.

And then there are those wonderful periods, when I find those blissful moments of happiness extending and staying for longer.

It doesn't mean my life won't fall to crap sometimes, and it always will.

That's why it's important to take a moment in time to appreciate something that has made you feel happy, or alive, or all warm and snuggly inside.

It can be anything. A toddler's mischievous chortle. The wise smile of an elderly loved one. A rainbow. A sunset. A warm cat on your lap, or sleeping puppy at your feet. A baby's hand curled around your finger. A swim under a waterfall. A first kiss.

Earlier this year, I decided to invite those moments into my life more often by saying 'Yes' as often as possible. Well, only to things that are legal, and sensible (mainly). And erm, possible. Clearly.

One of these was my trip to Bangkok with two of my dear friends from high-school, where inner children were rediscovered and set free. Where I laughed more than I have in years.

I brought at least part of the spirited inner-child back with me and I've attempted to keep her with me.

And my 'Yes Year' led to my thankful moment in time this week.

It all started with saying yes last week to coffee with a friend ...

As with all good stories, that led to a series of interesting events.

At times it was a little scary ...
(See the face in the rock on the left there?Actually, there is one on the right too.)

I needed some time on my own to think ...

At times it felt like I was at the start of a long journey ...
(Yep. Another one.)

But by the end of today, when everything came together in one blissful moment, I felt just like this.
(Pick either child or dog. They are all having fun on a freaking beach. That's like crack for kids and dogs.)

So much to be thankful for ... how about you?

Thank you for the challenge Bronnie. I need to be reminded of this often. So far this year has been up and down, but I need to say thank you for the wonderful trip to a spa in Cyprus at the end of March, getting my visa back in time to be able to do the trip. Can you remind me in a month or so to be grateful and give thanks again? Glad this year has so far been so wonderful for you. Vxx

Saying yes to happiness is a wonderful idea. And being happy is definitely a choice and one that you sometimes have to work towards and aim for :)

Happiness is not waiting for the rain to stop but learn to dance in the rain. It doesn't depend on outer circumstances but on the inner state of the mind. Happiness depends entirely on you- so find it, grab it, live your life feeling happy.
